StanClauson Associates

Stan Clauson Associates began in 1978 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The firm has long been involved in public sector projects, as well as providing support to individuals and the development community. We pioneered bike path development in New England under federal ISTEA legislation passed in 1991, and worked closely with the National Trust Main Street Program on revitalization projects in small communities. In 1998, the firm was re-formed when its principal, Stan Clauson, left his tenure as Community Development Director for the City of Aspen, Colorado, to return to private practice.

Our work involves responsible and sustainable design of resort and small community environments. We take projects through the land use permit process that we believe will enhance the quality of life for a community, and we work closely with community groups and elected officials to craft workable compromises that can make a vision into a reality.

Our work in transportation has involved providing the right kinds of accessibility for all forms of transportation, respecting the importance of the pedestrian and the bicyclist in a resort community.

We have also looked to emerging concepts and solutions from resorts around the world to aid our design efforts. We are frequent participants at international conferences on resort design and development, and maintain liaisons with planning and design firms in other countries. But we never forget that small details in intimate spaces often make the difference in the success of a project.
